After-School Tutoring Program
Limited living space in Hong Kong is a major physical obstacle for children to revise after school, while the lack of education supervision at home might persist the poverty cycle. In view of this, J Life provided After-School Tutoring Program in the afternoons of school days. Our tutors, comprised of volunteers and university students, worked with children in small groups, providing tutoring and guidance to assist children in completing their homework and revision.
Chinese, English & Maths Classes
Since 2017, we have weekly English tailor-made tutorial classes for children to enhance their English ability. In 2023, we are providing 1 Chinese class, 10 English classes and 2 Mathematics classes with around 100 primary and secondary students participating the classes.
Pre-Kindergarten Classes
Early life exposures are important to a child’s development. In our regular contacts with parents, we recognize that the toddlers and their parents need extra help to prepare for kindergarten and beyond. Our nursery classes operate on small classes, and parenting workshops are held for parents. By intervening at an early stage, our toddlers (some of them have special educational needs) are able to receive targeted and tailor-made education concerning discipline and knowledge, effectively reducing family conflicts and enhance family relationships.
We hold regular reading programs throughout the year for kindergarten to lower primary school children. Committed English-speaking volunteers were paired up with 10 children to read English books and play games in an English environment. This would encourage and enhance students’ confidence in using English.

Piano Classes
Since 2014, we have partnered with We Wah Music to provide free one to one piano lessons. In 2017, we have paired 10 children to learn and practice piano regularly in J Life.
Art therapy is the use of painting as a medium by qualified therapists to improve or maintain body coordination, social skills, concentration, cognitive abilities, stress relief, self-confidence, self-awareness and emotional expression. Two Art Therapy classes were held in 2022-2023 to allow children to explore and express their emotions freely in a non-judgmental space.
